Boeing books 121 jet orders in June while boosting deliveries to highest monthly level in years
The airframer in June delivered more aircraft than in any month in several years. Boeing in June padded its backlog with orders for 108 737 Max, most of them from unidentified buyers, while also landing deals for nine 777s, including five of its in-development 777-8 Freighter. The company disclosed the orders on 14 July, saying its backlog now includes 6,202 aircraft, up from 6,178 at the end of May. Boeing took orders last month for a total 121 aircraft, among them 112 737s. Those included orders from an unnamed customer or customers for 102 737 Max, while lessor Aviation Capital Group ordered six Max and Boeing Defense, Space & Security ordered four 737NGs. That Boeing division modifies 737NGs into military variants like P-8 Poseidon surveillance jets. The five 777-8F orders last month came from China Southern Cargo; that carrier and China Airlines also each ordered two first-generation 777Fs. Boeing is several years from securing the 777-8Fs certification. Also last month customers cancelled orders for eight 737 Max; WestJet nixed six and Air Europa and an unidentified customer each scrubbed one. Boeing additionally last month moved orders for 25 aircraft out of its backlog and into its ASC-606 accounting bucket, reserved for orders Boeing suspects will not actually close. That adjustment and cancellations left Boeing with 88 net new aircraft orders for June. Meanwhile Boeing in June continued a steady delivery pace, handing over 64 aircraft, more than in any month this year. It delivered 43 737s, five 767Fs, three 777Fs and 13 787s. So far this year, Boeing has logged net orders for 386 aircraft and delivered 314.
