Avianca Lifemiles Launches Up to 130% Bonus on Purchased Miles Until July 24
Avianca Lifemiles resumes its miles purchase promotion offering up to a 130% bonus, enabling members to acquire miles at approximately 1.43 cents each through July 24.
The gist
Avianca Lifemiles offers up to 130% bonus on purchased miles, making miles cost about 1.43 cents each with potential savings for Star Alliance redemptions.
Avianca Lifemiles has activated a new promotion on purchased miles running from July 15 to July 24, 2026, providing members a bonus up to 130% on miles bought during the period. After a hiatus of several months without offers, this marks the return of bonus promotions from the program. The specific bonus depends on the number of miles purchased, with a tiered system granting 115% for 1,000-20,000 miles, 120% for 21,000-50,000 miles, and a 130% bonus for purchases between 51,000 and 200,000 miles. Members are advised to log into their accounts as offers may vary or may not be available to all users.
Ordinarily, Avianca Lifemiles sells miles at a rate of 3.3 cents each before bonuses or discounts. Applying the maximum 130% bonus on a purchase of 200,000 miles results in a total of 460,000 miles for $6,600, reducing the effective cost to about 1.43 cents per mile. This pricing offers a potential bargain especially for premium cabin travel involving Star Alliance partners, although it is not the most generous promotion the program has ever offered.
Lifemiles holders can purchase up to 200,000 miles per calendar year before adding any promotional bonuses. The complexity of the offer arises because some members receive different bonus levels, with some not targeted for any current promotion. The program has been known in the past for frequent such promotions but has had an unusually long break prior to this recent offer.
One of Lifemiles’ key advantages lies in its Star Alliance membership which enables members to redeem miles across a wide network without surcharges on fuel. This makes the program particularly valuable for booking long haul premium cabin flights on carriers such as All Nippon Airways, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SWISS. However, availability of award seats through Lifemiles can differ compared to other Star Alliance frequent flyer programs, so travelers should perform dummy searches to confirm the viability of their intended redemption.
Purchases of Avianca Lifemiles count as airfare spending, allowing use of travel rewards credit cards that offer bonuses on airfare purchases. Members aiming to maximize rewards might consider cards that yield enhanced point earnings on airline transactions when buying miles under this promotion. Additionally, customers with Lifemiles+ subscriptions or Avianca credit cards can secure further discounts or benefits when purchasing miles.
Miles in the Lifemiles program remain valid as long as there is some activity within a 12-month period, including mileage accrual or purchase. Redemption of miles alone does not reset this expiration clock, emphasizing the importance of some form of mile-earning activity to retain balances. Beyond purchases, miles can also be earned through partnerships with major bank loyalty programs such as American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One, and Citi ThankYou, offering multiple routes to accumulate Lifemiles.
This promotion represents a valuable opportunity for travelers with imminent plans to book Star Alliance premium cabins at a discounted mile rate, with the effective cost per mile at historically low levels. However, prospective buyers should carefully consider their travel plans and award seat availability before committing, as the program’s redemption access may not always align with partner availability. The return of Lifemiles purchase promotions after a quiet spell signals renewed activity, though better deals have been seen previously.

Russian government hikes investment for 63 new domestic aircraft, delivery pushed to 2026-29
Investment figures revised for batch of more than 60 MC-21s, SJ-100s and Tu-214s. Revised Russian government documents detailing investment in the acquisition of more than 60 new-build aircraft have revealed a substantial price hike for the batch. The investment covers the acquisition of 18 Yakovlev MC-21s and 34 SJ-100s, plus 11 Tupolev Tu-214s. These were originally scheduled to be delivered to operators over the course of 2023-25 according to a January 2023 government document on the preferential leasing of domestically-produced aircraft. The document stated that they would be delivered to Aeroflot and Rossiya on 18-year terms through the lessor Aviakapital-Servis. But a revision to the document published on 2 July this year amends several aspects of the transaction. Delays in the development programmes have pushed back the delivery schedule to 2026-29. Although the composition of the 63 aircraft remains the same, the document states that the overall volume of the investment has risen sharply to Rb290.7 billion ($3.7 billion) from the previous figure of Rb175.4 billion. The price of the MC-21 is given as around Rb5.3 billion, up from the prior Rb3.2 billion, and similarly large rises are listed for the other models. According to the revision, the transfer of aircraft from Aviakapital-Servis to operators will start this year, but it only refers to "Russian airlines" rather than identifying Aeroflot and Rossiya. This could relate to Aeroflot Group's apparent shift, in 2024, entirely in favour of the MC-21, after it had previously committed additionally to the SJ-100 and Tu-214. The government document also states that the lease term from Aviakapital-Servis has increased to 22 years.
